As the Libyan rebels ransacked Moammar Gadhafi’s compound this week, a slew of bizarre loot is being discovered. Following on from the Libyan leader’s eccentric fashion accessories, his daughter’s golden mermaid couch, and the passport revealing the true spelling of his last name, the latest discovery is a creepy photo album filled with page after page of pictures of Condoleezza Rice giving speeches and meeting with foreign leaders, MSNBC reports.

Yes, turns out that Gadhafi had something of a thing for the former Bush cabinet member after she visited the Libya dictator back in 2008. “It was only three short years ago that Rice shared a late-night dinner with Gaddafi to break the Ramadan fast, three short years ago that the United States and Libya were celebrating what was to be a new chapter in their relations,” says Jason Ukman of the Washington Post.
So far, no big deal. But it gets creepier once you start digging. In an interview with Al Jazeera in 2007, the Libyan leader had nothing but boner-inducing praise for Rice: “I support my darling black African woman,” he said. “I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders … Leezza, Leezza, Leezza. … I love her very much.”
Rice became the highest-ranking American official to visit Libya since Richard Nixon in 1957, following Gadhafi’s decision in 2003 to abandon his nuclear weapons program and renounce terrorism. During her visit, Gadhafi showered Rice with $212,225 worth of gifts, including a diamond ring in a wooden box, a lute and an accompanying DVD, and a locket with Gadhafi’s own picture inside, according to a State Department report.
Politico adds one more funny addendum to Gadhafi’s obsession with Rice — he wasn’t the only world leader crushing hard on her. “Canadian then-Foreign Minister Peter McKay was rumored to be one such leader when the two met for talks in 2006; former British Foreign Minister Jack Straw and former Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema have been subject to similar such rumors,” the paper observes.
